The Official Site of Festival Activities for the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest® & Festival, celebrating 60 years of fun and excellence with our
DIAMOND JUBILEE in 2012!
There is so much more to see and do at the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest®and FESTIVAL. We want you to enjoy the competition at the contest, but there are a lot of other events and activities around town all through Fiddle Week. In addition to the official activities provided by the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest® and Festival, a number of local organizations provide activities as fund-raisers for their organization's projects. A few who are involved in this are the Weiser Elks and Xi Nu Sorority, who independently manage the vendors, entertainment stage and beer garden at Memorial Park, the Weiser Senior Center's wonderful breakfasts, the Elks' scrumptious dinners, Weiser Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and more.
You will also find yard sales, car shows, Bikers' Rodeo and more going on all throughout Fiddle Week each year. This is the official place for you to explore the offerings of the National Oldtime Fiddlers Contest® and Festival. Information about other organizations' activities is available during Fiddle Week each year in local event guides. The National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest® and Festival, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, is not involved in the operation or management of any of these other activities and is not involved in the decision-making of any other organization. There has been some confusion in the past over the various venues and this is made as clarification. There is definitely something for everyone throughout the week! We encourage you to explore them all!
This information is intended as a general overview of festival activities. The hub of our Festival activity is Bluegrass Village City Park, located between East 3rd and East 4th Streets, next to the Courthouse, on E. Court Street. The park is filled to capacity with the Northwest's finest craft and merchandise vendors. Our food court, "Fiddle Vittles Road," can satisfy the hankerings of nearly everyone. Vendors serve up fine BBQ, Mexican food, Chinese and Japanese fare, Buffalo Burgers, Prime Rib Sandwiches, Brats, Polish Sausage, Curly Fries, Baked Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Teriyaki, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, Indian Fry Bread... is your mouth watering yet?
Stately mature trees provide lots of shade and give an old-fashioned atmosphere as you sit a spell and enjoy the continuous entertainment on the stage. Entertainment begins around noon on Tuesday and goes until around 9:30 each evening through Saturday. We feature more Bluegrass Music on Friday and Saturday's line-up.
A highlight for the younger set is our fine carnival running Wednesday through Saturday. Located at Memorial Park, a few blocks directly north of City Park, the thrills abound. Discount tickets are available through Tuesday of Fiddle Week for All-You-Can-Ride wristbands at significant savings over purchase at carnival box office. Tickets are available from our office at 2235 Paddock Avenue (Slocum Hall) and at numerous businesses around town, also at Weiser Chamber of Commerce. Look for posters locally prior to Fiddle Week.
KIDS' DAY Friday in City Park is enjoyment for kids of all ages. Special "old-timey" displays, face-painting, fish pond, and many other kid-friendly activities are fun for the entire family. A special fund-raiser for the After-School Program for Weiser's youth is planned. More information as I work out the details!
One of Idaho's largest and finest parades begins at noon Saturday. Don't miss it! The number of entrants has more than doubled in the last two years! The Battle of the Bluegrass Bands takes place on Saturday afternoon right after the parade. All this and much more await your pleasure on the Festival side of things.
Come and visit us! You'll be glad you did! Watch for more details on activities for 2012.
